Let’s take a time machine back to 100 years ago. You need to see an attorney. What do you do? Well, you would likely hop in your horse-drawn carriage and make the trek out to the local law office.

Not much has changed in 100 years. While we’ve swapped the stagecoach for the Tesla, lawyers still insist you visit them in person when you need legal advice.

We’re trying to change that by offering estate planning consultations through a platform called Zoom.

Zoom lets you do a video call over the internet. This way you can do your consultation from the comfort of your own home.

Video calls are nothing new. Skype and Facetime have been around for years. However, what makes Zoom different is its simplicity.

To start a consultation over Zoom, we simply send you a link, you click it, and you’re in the meeting. No username or password is required. You just need an internet connection. It’s that easy.

We’re finding that this format is perfect for returning clients, who want to review their existing documents. During the online meeting, we simply upload the old trust or will to the screen and discuss what needs to be changed.

Of course, many of our clients will still prefer to meet in person, and we of course understand this and remain perfectly willing to accommodate their wishes. However, we would like to make Zoom an option as part of our mission to make estate planning as accessible as possible.

If you’re interested in setting up a review over Zoom or know a loved one who would like a free consultation, please let us know.
