Jaime Fergus

Attorney

Jaime Fergus is an attorney and estate planning specialist at Shea Law who helps clients achieve their estate planning goals by creating a comprehensive estate plan and preparing and drafting supporting documentation such as trusts, wills, and power of attorney documents. Motivated by the opportunity to help people make important decisions about assets, healthcare, and the future well-being of their loved ones, Jaime values both the intellectual challenge of the work and the deep and meaningful relationships that she forms with her clients. Those relationships help her develop a deeper understanding of her clients’ needs, goals, and values and instill the kind of trust that allows for personalized and tailored solutions.

Jaime is a proponent of active listening as a way to not only appreciate her clients’ personal priorities, but also as a way to better grasp their unique circumstances, family dynamics, and personal values. She is skilled at translating those elements into legally sound and comprehensive estate planning solutions. She preaches the importance of proactive planning and preparing a path to security and peace of mind, cognizant of the fact that her work directly impacts the fortunes of families and individuals by helping them avoid potential pitfalls, protect their assets, and ensure their wishes are carried out effectively.

Jaime graduated from Carleton University in 2015, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Psychology. She earned her Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Windsor in 2019. While in law school, Jaime served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Richard Halloran of the Wayne County Circuit Court and participated in all courtroom functions, including drafting judicial opinions.

Outside of work, Jaime enjoys spending time with family and friends, and playing intramural sports.

As an estate planning attorney, legacy is a concept that informs so much of what I do. For my clients, legacy is often about something tangible: the contributions, values, resources, and achievements that shape and support future generations long after a person is gone. But I try not to lose sight of the fact that legacy is the connective tissue that provides continuity between the past, present, and future. It allows us to learn from the experiences and wisdom of those who came before us, and the opportunity to build upon their accomplishments. By considering our own legacy, we can strive to make a positive difference in the world, leaving behind a better place for future generations.
